All Things New

(Excerpt from “21 Day Prayer Challenge for Passionate Educators”

by Dr. Stephanie A. Harper)

Do not copy the behavior and the customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

Romans 12:2

Every school has a culture. This culture defines how everyone that enters its doors thinks, communicates and behaves. The patterns, whether good or bad, successful or failing, are engraved in its core. Many who tried to change the culture quickly experience the challenges and difficulties of not conforming to the status quo. Consequently, these change agents either conform or leave. Despite these challenges, passionate educators understand the power (dynamis) that dwells inside them. This power, which comes from the Holy Spirit, gives believers the ability to carry out their divine assignments (Acts 1:8). Therefore, as you are transformed, you will transform the educational system.

Prayer:

Father, the creator of all things, I acknowledge that your will is good, pleasing, and perfect. As your vessel, I will not copy the behavior of this current educational system. Yet I will be transformed into a new person by changing the way I think. Consequently, my classroom and school will experience transformation as the light of your glory penetrates through me.

My new behavior will influence the thoughts and actions of my colleagues. It will influence educational policies and legislation. No longer will there be a status quo. New and innovative ideas will be birthed to transform our classrooms and schools. Thank you for the power and resilience to stand as the school’s culture is changed, even if its inner core.

Thank you Father for transforming the educational system. In Jesus’ name, amen.
