10 Steps To A Successful School Year

With the start of the school year quickly approaching, you may have some anxieties about what it will look like. Every school is different and every child is different. Even with the difficulties that our country has faced in 2020, you can still set yourself up for a positive experience. Here are a few tips to help you have the best school year.

1. Let go of last year

Whether it was a good one or a bad one, move along! This is a new year with new students. Learn from the past and keep moving forward.

2. Find a mentor

Find an experienced educator that you can learn from and confide in.

3. Communicate early

Talk with parents early! You don’t have to wait until the first day to reach out to the families.

4. Get organized

Prepare your room, routines, and lesson plans so you are not scrambling at the last minute.

5. Build relationships

Get to know your students. Find out their likes and dislikes. Celebrate their different personalities.

6. Try something new

Try something like a new ice breaker or get creative with a new way to present a lesson plan to change things up.

7. Decorate your classroom and door

Even if you’re doing virtual classrooms, you can still decorate the background! Put up positive messages and fun pictures!

8. Over-plan your lessons

Plan ahead so that your students are not left with nothing to do at the end of class.

9. Develop classroom rules

This is something you can do with your students! Work together to set guidelines for a peaceful year.

10. Smile

No matter what, greet your students with a smile. You never know what they may be experiencing in their day to day life. You may be the only one to show them kindness that day!
